USA Baseball vs. USSSA Bats
USA Baseball bats are designed to perform more like wood bats. They are commonly used in recreational and community-based youth organizations such as Little League, Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth, PONY and many local parks-and-recreation leagues. USA-certified bats can still be made in light drop weights, but their barrel performance is intentionally limited to the USABat standard.
USSSA bats are built to the USSSA 1.15 BPF performance standard and are generally used in competitive travel baseball and USSSA-sanctioned tournaments. They typically provide greater trampoline effect—or a “hotter” barrel—than USA bats and are commonly offered with 2¾-inch barrels in drop-10, drop-8 and drop-5 configurations.
A USSSA bat carrying the 1.15 BPF mark is not legal in a league that exclusively requires the USA Baseball mark. Some USSSA events may permit a USA-certified bat, but the player would normally give up the additional barrel performance available from an approved USSSA model. Always check the specific league, age division and tournament rules before purchasing.
Drop 10 vs. Drop 11
A bat’s drop is the difference between its length in inches and weight in ounces. A 29-inch, 18-ounce bat is a drop 11.
Drop-11 bats offer a lighter relative weight that may help developing players generate speed and control the barrel. Drop-10 models add slightly more mass and may suit players ready for a more substantial feel.
Comparing The Goods, Exile and Uprising
The Goods is designed for hitters who prefer a stronger barrel feel. Exile and Uprising provide lighter drop-11 choices for developing players.
