All-Star MVP-PRO Kits
All-Star's pro-level line. All-Star labels these sizes Large, Medium and Small, and each leg guard size covers a range of lengths. The age on each kit is a starting point. All-Star says a player's measurements matter more than age, so check yours with the How to Measure steps at the bottom of this page.
| Size | Helmet (Hat Size) | Chest | Leg Guards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adult | 7 – 7 1/2 | 16.5" | 16.5" – 17.5" |
| Ages 12–16 | 7 – 7 1/2 | 15.5" | 15" – 16" |
| Ages 9–12 | 6 1/4 – 7 | 14.5" | 13.5" – 14.5" |
MVP-PRO LT and Short Fuse limited-edition kits come in these same three sizes.

All-Star Fastpitch Kits
All-Star designs its fastpitch gear for female catchers and sizes it by height. All-Star calls these heights a guideline, not a rule, so confirm with measurements.
| Size | Height | General Age |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 4'10" – 5'3" | 9–12 |
| Medium | 5'3" – 5'8" | 12–16 |
| Large | 5'8"+ | 16+ |
| Kit | Helmet (Hat Size) | Chest | Leg Guards |
|---|---|---|---|
| AFx Small | 6 1/4 – 7 | 15.5" | 13.5" |
| AFx Medium | 7 – 7 1/2 | 16.5" | 14.5" |
| AFx Large | 7 – 7 1/2 | 17.5" | 15.5" |
| PHX Small | 6 1/4 – 7 | 13" | 13.5" |
| PHX Medium | 7 – 7 1/2 | 14.5" | 15" |
| PHX Large | 7 – 7 1/2 | 16" | 16" |
| Heiress Small | 6 1/4 – 7 | 13" | 13.5" |
| Heiress Medium | 6 1/4 – 7 | 14.5" | 15" |
| Heiress Large | 7 – 7 1/2 | 16" | 16" |
AFx vs. PHXSame size name, different lengths. An AFx Medium chest protector is two inches longer than a PHX Medium. Pick the kit line first, then match your catcher's chest and leg measurements to that line's rows.
Find Your Helmet Size
All-Star sizes catcher's helmets by hat size. Measure around your catcher's head and match it here, then use the helmet column in the kit tables above.
| Head Circumference | Hat Size | Helmet |
|---|---|---|
| 19 3/8" – 22" | 6 1/8 – 7 | Youth |
| 22" – 23 1/2" | 7 – 7 1/2 | Adult |
In Between Sizes?Helmets and pads go opposite directions. For the helmet, pick the smaller size, because All-Star says a catcher's helmet has to fit securely. For chest protectors and leg guards, pick the longer length.
How to Measure
Three measurements cover the whole kit. When a measurement and the age range disagree, go with the measurement.
Three Measurements
- Head: Wrap a soft tape measure around the widest part of the head, just above the eyebrows and ears. Match it to the hat size chart above.
- Chest: Measure from the notch at the top of the breastbone, at the base of the neck, straight down to the belly button. The chest protector should sit high, with the throat guard over the base of the neck.
- Legs: Have your catcher sit down with cleats on. Measure from the center of the kneecap to the knot in the cleat laces.
Don't Buy to Grow Into ItJumping a full size so the gear lasts two seasons leaves gaps and lets pieces shift while blocking. Buy for today's measurements. Between two lengths, go longer, but don't skip a size.
BTL TipNot sure between two sizes? Bring your catcher by the shop and have them get into a crouch in both. Fit behind the plate is easier to judge in the gear than on a tape measure.
