BTL Staff Review

The Hype Fire -5 is a great fit for an older, stronger travel-ball hitter preparing for BBCOR. It has a balanced feel for a -5 and gives the player more weight behind the ball without making the barrel difficult to control. This is a hot bat with plenty of pop, and we like it for gap and middle-of-the-order hitters.

BTL TipMost 13 year olds playing travel ball are on a -5. That is the right stepping stone before the jump to BBCOR. If your player is heading into 9th grade, get comfortable with the heavier drop now so the transition is not a shock.

Who should choose the -5 Hype Fire?

An older, stronger travel-ball hitter who can maintain good bat speed with a heavier bat. It is a natural option for gap-to-gap and middle-of-the-order hitters preparing for heavier bats.

Is this a BBCOR bat?

No. It is a -5 USSSA bat with a 1.15 BPF stamp, not a -3 BBCOR model.

What does the two-piece construction offer?

The composite handle and barrel are joined by ConneXion Max, giving players the flex and comfortable contact feel associated with the Hype Fire.
